August 18, 2024🎧 Big News for DJs on Twitch! 🎧
Hey music lovers, exciting updates from Twitch! They’ve officially launched a brand-new DJ category, making it easier than ever for DJs to spin their mixes live with some sweet deals from labels and artists. As the restrictions loosen, it’s only going to get better. Oh, and guess what? You can now catch me on Twitch as DJSammm!
Launch Party Highlights
I had the chance to catch the epic launch party featuring a set by none other than Zedd. The vibe was electric with over 15,000 viewers tuning in! The party didn’t stop there—Zedd’s massive audience then raided a DJ in BC, turning his stream into an unforgettable experience.
My Twitch Journey
I dove into the Twitch world during the pandemic, a perfect outlet to keep my DJ skills sharp and beat the quarantine blues. Alongside my DJing, I’m also a gaming enthusiast, which made Twitch the perfect platform for me.
Back then, I was rolling with a 2015 MacBook Pro, with an Intel i7 processor 16GB or RAM and either an Nvidia or AMD graphics coprocessor (can't remember). Camera-shy, I opted for mesmerizing visualizers during my sets, but soon learned that running DJ software, OBS, and visualizers simultaneously on Wi-Fi led to a choppy experience. Yep, my visuals looked like a retro 8-bit game at times!
After some research, I upgraded to an external graphics co-processor from Razer paired with an AMD 5700 graphics card. The improvement was noticeable but not groundbreaking. Just when I thought things couldn’t get worse, our landlord tossed out the A/C unit, transforming my studio into a sauna and causing my gear to overheat. Nightmare mode: activated.
The Copyright Hassle
Adding salt to the wound, I received countless copyright warnings (like, DJs play music, duh!). This led me to switch platforms, and now you can catch my mixes on Mixcloud here.
The Upgrade
In 2021, I leveled up with a beastly 14” M1 MacBook Pro, maxed out with 64GB of RAM, 4TB of storage, and the M1 Max processor boasting up to 48 graphic cores. This powerhouse has been my reliable partner in crime ever since.
With my new setup, I started collecting music videos and using Virtual DJ, which streams seamlessly to any service, including Twitch. As bars reopened, I was invited to DJ FML Mondays, where video content became a staple of my sets. Imagine seated patrons, masks on, grooving to my beats—what a unique experience!
Back to Twitch!
Now, with Twitch’s latest announcement, I’m thrilled to rejoin the community and stream regularly. Though I’m just getting started, I’m optimistic and ready for an incredible journey ahead. Check out my setup gallery and screens—I'll be live, interacting, and dropping some killer sets. See you in the Twitch space!
